| Server Update |
| After a move to a new server last week which didn't work out too well we have now moved the site to another location so fingers crossed this time. |
| Tide Times |
| The tide times have been updated :-) |
| Storm damage |
| Looks like the camera has suffered some storm damage or a certain member of the T family has been swinging from it again...will try and get it repositioned asap. We have had quite a few emails recently asking us why the old llangennith camera is not working having given us money to do it... Gowerlive is in no way affiliated with the camera that's offline at llangennith and has never received any donations from viewers. Our money is generated through advertising on the website. We help to maintain the camera at the wormshead hotel however that is provided by the hotel themselves free of charge. |
| TideTimes |
| Sorry for the delay in changing the hour on the tide times...we've now updated it. |
| Positions Update |
| We have added a few more locations for you to look at on the langland camera, we somehow managed to delete these when we first set it up. |
| Standup paddlesurfing comes to Gower |
| Stand up paddlesurfing has finally hit Gower with various sightings of these huge boards parading the lineup. It really is addictive! and a great core workout, surfing small to medium sized waves is great as you can get into them so early. If you fancy a go or want to purchase one go to www.Gowerkiteriders.com and check the online shop - we will have a 10' and 11' ft to test soon so send a enquiry to book your taster. |

| Eco Surf Film made in Wales |
| Great surfing. Great music. Gower surf instructor and award-winning filmmaker Anne Gallagher uses her degree in Geography to keep an eye on local evidence of climate change, whilst encouraging the surf industry to go green. Check out this new eco-surf film made in Gower by alternative news crew Undercurrents.org. | Dredging |
With the latest news that the welsh assembly has just agreed to 1 million tonnes of sand being dredged from the helwick bank, should'nt a study have been taken on the obvious effects its having on the gower coast been done first.
This is the letter i had back from the Welsh Assembly in regard to the dredging
Lee Woodman
Thank you for your e mails of 13 September about dredging at Helwick Bank.
The application, by Llanelli Sand Dredging Ltd, sought permission to dredge 300,000 tonnes of aggregates a year for 15 years. It was considered under the Assembly Government's "Interim Procedures for a Government View". These were revised in June 2002. They provide for consultation on such applications, and for a public inquiry to be held to resolve issues. Such an inquiry took place in June and July 2006, and the report of the Inspector who held that inquiry provided the basis for the Government View which issued on 1 August. The View letter stated that dredging of 150,000 tonnes a year could take place for 7 years. The letter will be taken into account by the Crown Estate, owner of the seabed, in deciding to issue the licence which would actually allow dredging to take place.
The View letter also contains conditions requiring the company to undertake a baseline survey of Helwick Bank and beaches on Gower before dredging can begin, and for there to be regular surveys and reviews during the period of the licence. If needs be, dredging can be suspended if these surveys show that harm is being caused to environmental features.
The Public Inquiry was held by Clive Nield, a Planning Inspector. His report provided the basis for the decision taken by Jane Davidson, Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing, under powers delegated to her. The letter which set out the Minister's decision was issued by Rosemary Thomas, Head of Planning Division.
Copies of the Inspector's Report and of the Government View letter are available on request.
Yours sincerely
Jeff Spear
Planning Division

| New Camera |
| OK, As you can see we have the new Cam online. Control the Camera here :-) I think there's a slight problem with the Langland Bay view i think the camera might be focusing on something on the window as apposed to the bay itself. |

| A little tester and a teaser |
We thought we would try out a feed from The Wormshead Hotel. So here is (possibly) the new home of the Llangennith Webcam. The guys at the hotel have been working their remaining hair follicles to the bone trying to fix the reliability issues with the webcam and are confident they have cracked it. We will look at increasing the refresh rate in a few weeks hopefully coinciding with the launch of our new website and another treat we have instore for you...!
The camera at the hotel is updated on our site every minute...we'll look into a 3 or 6 second refresh in the future providing all goes well. If you try accessing the webcam direct on the hotels site it has a limit of 20 users at any one time but we will always have an image available in some shape or form as we have direct access to the camera, also we have no control over what the camera is looking at so you might find it looking at the wormshead or pembroke, if thats the case try logging into the hotels website and resetting it back to the surf. ps got a new SDF Surfboard today so u reef riders better watch out...Woody's coming through! |

| Saga The Movie....about time it went public |

| Cam Update |
I have found a little script which allows the page to time out after 2 mins of freshing the camera so we're gonna give that a go for a month and see what the bandwidth usage is like. Also there's a new camera up at Oxwich but i've not been able to view it as yet so i think their still having some technical difficulties with that one. You can keep an eye on the situation at the Oxwich Bay Hotel website...UPDATE:Hi Lee I put the camera up on the Oxwich Bay Hotel about two weeks ago. The camera is working fine it's just that the broadband connection down at the bay is really patchy. If the line is up the camera will forward you a small active X script to view the moving images. Once you have installed this you should see the viseo stream. If you re visit the site and get a message saying 'No Video' then the hotels broadband connection is down and try again a bit later. We'll have to see how it goes before BT stop us streaming and using up too much of their precious bandwidth. All the best. Keep up the good work. Tomsk |

| Weekend Surf Action |
| Quite a good weekends surf action. Found myself at the reef on sat afternoon with a few monster sets coming in around 4:45pmish just as the tide turned, was like clock work! How did Gennith/Rhossili pan out on Sunday afternoon? Havn't heard of any car breaks in over the weekend...ne to report? |
| Another Car Stolen |
| Thanks to Sonny Boy Williams ROG 28 has been found on a certain hill in a certain city. UPDATE: The police told us on the night that they are going to be getting a security van parked there for the weekend although this is purely a short term deterant and is unlikely to prevent further incidents in the future...the only sure fire method is to get CCTV as a permanent fixture in the car park. |

| CAR CRIME PETITION |
| Hello everyone, we have a petition form on the LSD site so get over there and join up so we can show just how many people in the area are fed up with surfers being targeted by car thieves. Cheers, Stu @ LSD |

| Car Break in |
| Hi all. Just to let you know the car thief?s are still about. On the 30.04.07 had my car broken into at langland. Just went for some paddling practice between 7pm and 8pm stole two mobile phones and a car stereo. All surfers be vigilant, this was when there was no surf either. Thanks jay |

| Portuguese Man O' War |
| watch out for Portuguese Man O' War they can be around lately by offshore winds they look like a balloon with sometimes tentacles dangling down. They usually come in swarms but in the uk sometimes come on their own.If u get stung by these creatures Please rub the sting with salt water NOT FRESHWATER,Maybe vinegar do not pick or use sand on it that aggrivates it. |

| Porpoises seen at Port Eynon |
| I was camping at Port Eynon over the last few days. On Friday morning, I walked to the point to check out the swell and spent around 10 minutes watching a small pod of what looked like porpoises moving around the buoy. |

| In a world where Unlimited = Restricted |
| Looks like we're not the only ones having bandwidth issues at the moment, we nearly got knocked off line by the host last week for "abusing" the resources. Anyway we seem to have come up with a solution but it means taking the streaming off for now. We're on the case! |
| What a sunset! |
| You can see why this place is in the top 10 for sunsets in the world! The wormshead...i did catch it 10mins before this but i managed to overwrite it :-( |

| caswell |
| hey, i surfed caswell on wednesday and yesterday and have suffered none of the symptoms you mentions however due to the large amount of rainfall on friday there was alot of water coming from the sewage pipe at caswell. This water is mainly storm run off but during periods of intense wet weather the sewage system can sometimes over flow and untreated effluent can reach our coastline so there may be something in the water that you reacted badly too.(hi there one of my mates also surfed caswell yesterday, but is okhas no symptons like yours (Surfed in Caswell yesterday and have come out in a bad rash all over body and have swollen glands. Had to go to A+E this morning. Possibly there is something suspect in the water? Just want to make people aware. (Note from Lee: Anybody else suffering from this?)) |
| Meaty Swell |
| The quality of these pics is not the best but the weather was horrendous. New Gallery. Some absolutly massive sets coming through the point, check this one out! and this one. | Sorry for the Outage |
| Wow that was a long 24hrs! We had a problem with the server hence the total outage for the past 24hrs...I thought secretly they might be trying to get rid of us for hoovering up 600GB of bandwidth last month! But all is now well |
| Your Photos on Gower Live |
| We have had a request to enable you guys to be able to upload your photos to the website so here you go. Whether it's the camera image itself or you're a professional photographer or somebody just snapping for fun...you can now upload your photos directly to Gower Live ...once approved they will be on the site immediatly. Simply visit the archive area of the site to start uploading. We wil make this a major feature of the website in the coming future...p.s anybody hear about a tornado on Gower in the last couple of days? |
| Broadband Upgrade |
| We are just in the process of upgrading the broadband that supplies the webcam...should be back online by midday. |

| Forecast |

| Period's out of action |
| Seems that wave period is out of action on the wave buoy at the moment so its throwing a little error in our script, hopefully NDBC will resolve soon. Some nice waves at inside point this morning. |
| SEAL SPOTTERS! |
| Me my mum and my sister were walking across the cliff top the other day and spotted four seals! watch out! |
| Wave Buoy Data |
| As I'm sure you are all aware, the wave buoy feed is currently out of action...since moving over to the new server it doesn't like the script we use to go and get the latest data so I am trying to find a resolution ASAP |
| Rhossili Webcam |
| I have emailed the hotel and they have confirmed that the new camera will have pan tilt and zoom. (Admin comment: Bare in mind the Gower does have issues with it's broadband so it might not neccessarily be streaming, however in my experience with these cameras they can be set on presets to snap different areas of the bay in rotation) |
| Camera Time Change |
| We have changed the time that the camera switches off...its now 5pm(damn those winter nights). p.s. rumour has it "The Wormshead" Webcam is Pan Tilt Zoom :-) |
| Streaming Camera Speed |
| We have had one or two emails asking if we can up the frame rate on the Langland webcam. We could up the frame rate but it would mean we would have to make the image smaller (1/2 the size to be exact). Broadband in the UK at the moment is not symetircal i.e. download speed is not the same as upload speed, so each of our images is about 40k in size and our broadband upload speed is about 27k so it takes just under 2 seconds to get a frame to the server for you guys to download. Symetrical broadband is in the pipeline but its maybe a year away. Let me know what you think...I personally prefer the larger image. |
| Live Camera Update (2) |
| (UPDATED)Ok we have migrated over to the new server. The wave buoy feed is still in testing, should have that resolved soon...if you can see anything I have missed drop me an email. Hope you enjoy the feed, it throws a whole new dimension on things! ...ps the Wormshead hotel are just about to launch a new Llangennith webcam at Rhosilli, they have also put a weather station on their roof...its a serious bit of kit (nice 1 Ade hopefully we'll get the image on Gower Live Soon), it also provides live data feeds including wind, rain etc Llangennith Webcam link |
| Live Camera Update |
| I am in the middle of moving the hosting of the website to a newer version of our hosts system...which has amongst other things unlimited bandwidth...which means unlimited video streaming...not sure they know what their letting themselves in for but hey...they said it! I am not anticipating the site going down but their might be an hour or two where things get a little tense! So in the mean time lets suck up the remaining bandwidth on the old hosting package and go LIVE! |
| The Camera is LIVE |
| We've now got the camera streaming into your teleboxes all over the country. We're going to have to keep an eye on the bandwidth for the next couple of days as we have a limit of 25GB per month and today you already sucked up 1.25!!! If you could close the browser window down when you have finished viewing the camera that would be a great help :-) Well enjoy the weekend...as I write this the buoy is 16ft @ 8secs... :-) shame about the wind...although it looks like it's swinging round to a northerly!! ps this ones for Carly Brewster AUS. |

| News from Rhosilli |
I surfed Rhosilli last night. Stashed my key on my car (because it was an electronic one). When I got out of the water, and looked for my key - it was gone. Everything in my car of any value was gone. All in all a bad evening. The surf wasn't particularly good either!
I thought all the scum bags just hung around at Llangennith, now it seems they're moving further afield.
Cheers
Mr. Davies

| Swell Direction is now in motion |
| For some time now we have been working on showing the direction of the dominant swell direction visually. We have successfully now done this as per the map at the bottom of the page. See also the Info button for further information. |
